In Ex Machina, an empathetic young software engineer named Caleb is brought to a tech billionaire’s secluded compound to evaluate a charming and enigmatic artificial intelligence humanoid named Ava. The film is a work of art that blurs the line between technological and human based consciousness. The movie is filled with dark and deeply sensitive undertones, and Caleb who you think is the protagonist but aren’t quite sure, is chosen to evaluate and connect with Ava, because he is a Depeche Mode fan. This shows not only an incredible understanding of Depeche Mode’s music, but also the romantic and sensitive nature of most DM fans! Bravo to the writer Alex Garland for creating such an incredible piece of fiction with an attention to detail that truly defies imagination. “Do you like Mozart?” “I like Depeche Mode” Thanks Caleb we couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
